FINE ARTIST LORI RYLAND paints acrylic paintings on canvas,
draws in multiple painting and drawing mediums, such as colored pencil and oil pastel, and is a photographer and a video artist.
By using curving the horizon with a 180 degree perspective she reminds us that what we see is actually less than what we can
access. By shifting our vision to the left and to the right, we can expand our focus, so that our flat and straight horizon
becomes a more rounded vision of the world. With this added focal information we can experience a visual expansion.
Lori earned a B.F.A. at the Pacific Northwest College of Art, in Portland, Oregon. She
has shown her work in group exhibitions such as “ARTISTS OF OREGON” at the Portland Art Museum, “THE NEW
REALISTS” at Arts Place Gallery, “IMAGES” at Northwest Marylhurst College (Funded by the Oregon Committee
for the Humanities), “WOMEN ARTISTS OF THE NORTHWEST” sponsored by Calyx Magazine at the Northwest Artist Workshop,
“MADE IN CALIFORNIA”, at the City of Brea Gallery, juried by the curator of the UCLA Hammer Museum, “EXPLORE
THIS” juried by the director of the San Diego Museum of art, and has also been represented by James Clark Contemporary
Art in Los Angeles, and the William Merrill Gallery, in Laguna Beach, California. Her work has been purchased by the
Portland Metropolitan Arts Commission, the Washington State Arts Commission, and the Oregon State Arts Commission, as well
as the American Society of University of Women, and can be seen in different state, city, and public buildings in the Northwest.
Her artwork has been featured in the Portland Downtowner Newspaper, Spectrum Magazine of the Arts, Portland Review Magazine,
the Oregonian Newspaper, the Gresham Outlook Newspaper, the American Artists of the Reknown publication, Calyx Magazine (A
